Commencement Program, 1922.

Commencement Day, Monday, June 12, was a particularly momentous event. It had been decided the previous month that for the first time in Hobart and William Smith’s history the two Colleges would hold a joint commencement. The decision was a practical one made out of necessity; there were too many other events planned and not enough time in the day to schedule the traditional two separate commencements.

Led by the Geneva Park Band, the Commencement procession began at the Demarest Memorial Library and proceeded across campus to a tent on South Field where 28 Hobart men graduated alongside 21 William Smith women. The combined commencement went so well that the Colleges decided to continue this new tradition into the future.
