Geneva Medical College campus

Description

Black and white photograph showing the Geneva Medical College building on South Main St. The Medical College is the tall building with the columns and the dome on the roof. The medical building, located near 493 South Main Street, was erected in 1846 to house the medical school which had been located in the Middle Building since 1834. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to receive the degree of Doctor of Medicine, studied in this building in 1848-49. The caption on the bottom of the photograph reads: "J. G. Vail, Phot. Geneva Medical College. N. E. View. And First Pres. Church Parsonage. 197 Main St. Geneva, N. Y."
